You don’t grow in your comfort zone
Last week, I delivered my first-ever keynote. One of the most terrifying things I’ve said yes to in my career.
The expectations from my client for delivery were high. No higher than the expectations I put on myself, though.
Despite knowing the topic deeply, the pressure to deliver a memorable and ‘value-add’ experience for the audience was immense.
Self-doubt, overwhelm, and fear weighed heavy on my mind.
I didn’t doubt that when the time came, I would deliver and deliver well because, in my mind, that was the only option. But the mental pressure I endured to get there was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before.
What did I learn?
- Growth doesn’t happen in your comfort zone and when I push myself so far out of my comfort zone, I learn what I am capable of.
Was it a success?
- The three rounds of applause I received following my keynote suggest it was.
Would I do it again?
- 1000% yes.
Why am I sharing this?
- As a reminder to do the things that scare you. It will feel uncomfortable, terrifying and overwhelming, but it’s what life is all about. And the more you do it, the more you will realise what you are capable of achieving.
